Why was completing a residency at Ohio State beneficial to your career?
Without question, the OSU-HSPA residency program has been critically influential in my career. Specifically, my current success is the product of those mentors, many of which are associated with the residency program, who have been immensely impactful in my life. And so, in my current role as Associate Director of the Purdue University College of Pharmacy Center for Medication Safety Advancement and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, I strive to mentor others in their own professional journey. The OSU-HSPA program in conjunction with the Latiolais Leadership Program (LLP) gave me the mentorship, training, and experience to be a leader of pharmacy no matter the career; more than just a program designed to train the next pharmacy operations manager, the skills, opportunities, and mentors throughout my residency helped me maximize my own interests and passions. To date, this has culminated in my current non-traditional role as I lead a team of people, manage strategic initiatives, form global partnerships, and educate others as an expert in medication safety. As a professional, I do my very best to live and work by the “Latiolais Success Characteristics” as published in the September 2013 Hospital Pharmacy Director’s Forum article:
- Be dedicated to Leadership
- Sincerely care about your people
- Never be satisfied with the status quo
- Implement your vision
In everything I do, I hope to excel in these tenets, making my colleagues, my patients, my customers, my family, and my fellow alumni of this renowned program proud.
